National Archaeological Museum, Naples

We visited the National Archaeological Museum in Naples today. It has a large collection of Roman artifacts from Pompeii.

This is the back of a mirror.

The top picture is of chess pieces. (I am not sure what the items in the bottom picture are - other than cute!)

This vessel is so thin it is almost translucent.

This is two sides of a cameo glass vase showing cupids harvesting grapes.

This is one of the only pictures in existence showing what Vesuvius looked like before it erupted. (That is Bacchus standing beside it covered in grapes.)

These are mosaics made with tiny little tiles.

The picture on the right below is made with tiny tiles but the left picture is of a full size column.

These statues are not necessarily from Pompeii.

This one is called the Drunken Satyr.

This one is called Hercules at Rest. He has pomegranates in his hand behind his back.

This one is called the Farnese Bull or Group With The Torment of Dirce.

And, of course, another ceiling.
