Madara Horseman & Arbanasi

Today we traveled from Varna to Veliko Tarnovo, making two stops along the way.

The first was at the Madara Horseman stone carving. This is an early medieval large rock relief dated in the very late 7th or very early 8th century. The relief depicts a life-size horseman 23 m (75 ft) above ground level in an almost vertical 100 m (328 ft)-high cliff. On the left is a dog running after the horseman. [Wikipedia]

Our next stop was in Arbanasi, an area known for its rich merchant traders in the 17th and 18th centuries. We visited the house of one such merchant that had been preserved as a museum.

This was the sitting room or reception hall.

This was the kitchen.

And this, the master bedroom.

There were lovely pots of flowers in the windows.
