Zermatt & The Matterhorn

Today we moved from Lugano to Mürren by way of Zermatt. Zermatt is the jumping off point for the Matterhorn and thrives solely on tourism. There are lots of hotels, restaurants, and shops, and tons of flowers.

We took a train from Täsch to Zematt then rode an underground funicular ...

... to Sunnegga (2,278 m/7,474 ft) for a view of the Matterhorn (4,478 m/14,692 ft).

There are also several glaciers nearby.

We took the underground funicular back from Sunnegga then the train from Zermatt to Täsch to continue our journey. After a short while on the road we headed to another train station where the coach was loaded onto a rail car for a trip through the Alps in the Lötschberg Tunnel (14.612 km/9.079 mi long) from Goppenstein to Kandersteg. It was a very tight fit!
