Avenches & Murten

Our first stop today was Avenches. This town was formerly known as Aventicum, the capital of Roman Helvetia. The Emperor Augustus founded the city of Aventicum and, in its heyday in the 2nd century, it had over 20,000 inhabitants. As you might expect, there were Roman ruins to be seen, such as this amphitheater.

We then moved on to the medieval town of Murten. While there were some good looking buildings and signs ...

... the highlight was the medieval wall which you could walk on.
