We visited the embroidery shop of 'Hearts' / 'Castelux' in Lixa (www.hearts.pt and www.castelux.com). Hearts specializes in custom hand embroidery and their Castelux brand offers hand embroidered table linens.
One style they offer uses an interesting weaving technique to create patterns in the fabric. Then a beautiful hand embroidered border is added.
They also add gorgeous bands of embroidery to table cloths, placemats, napkins, towels, etc. They have two samplers at the shop showing the range of designs available. (They were too big to fit in one photo.) Center motifs can also be included.
One of the embroiderers was there working during our visit.
They also will create linens to match your table service pattern.
