Agrigento

Our first stop this morning was the Pietro Griffo archeological museum which has artifacts from Greek settlers of the sixth to third century BC.

The museum also houses a telamon, a stone giant from the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the largest Doric temple ever constructed in the Greek world—as tall as a modern 10-story building.  This telamon was just one of 38 sandstone figures that decorated the sides of the temple.

This model shows where the Telamon would have been.

We then visited the Valley of the Temples Archaeological Park.  Very impressive!

Temple of Heracles

Temple of Hera Lacinia

Temple of Concordia

We stopped at a little cafe rest area on the way and found this awesome display of goodies!
