Alsace

Our first stop today was Haut-Koenigsbourg castle. Some form of the castle has been on this site since the 12th century. In 1633, during the Thirty Years' s War the castle was besieged by Swedish forces who burned and looted it. For several hundred years it was left unused and the ruins became overgrown by the forest. The German emperor Wilhelm II commissioned the castle to be restored and work on it proceeded from 1900 to 1908.

In addition to some great looking furniture ...

... there were also these gorgeous ceramic stoves (that had to be restored from pieces).

We then continued on to Kaysersburg which has loads more cute houses.

This was followed by a walk through some vineyards and a wine tasting at a local coop.
